If you’re like many Americans, you’re interested in finding out what will happen to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac as policymakers in Washington decide their fate. During last month’s Zillow event with President Barack Obama, 12 percent of the questions submitted by people via social media actually addressed Fannie and/or Freddie.
Zillow is thrilled to be able to continue this conversation. Earlier this week, Chief Economist Stan Humphries hosted a conversation and Q&A session on one proposal for the reform of Fannie and Freddie — often called “government-sponsored enterprises” and referred to as GSEs — with Sens. Bob Corker, R-TN, and Mark R. Warner, D-VA.
We’ll release the video of the conversation tomorrow at 8 a.m. PDT/11 a.m. EDT right here on Zillow Blog. Follow the conversation on Twitter using the hashtag #GSEreform.
The two senators are co-sponsors of Senate Bill 1217, the Housing Reform and Taxpayer Protection Act, which would replace the GSEs with a new system that aims to preserve market liquidity and protect taxpayers from future economic downturns.
