I’ve now been back in Seattle a few days following my trip to Phoenix last week for Phoenix RE BarCamp. I had an absolutely awesome trip (it didn’t hurt that the weather was gorgeous) and wanted to share a few thoughts. The crowd was extremely engaged, which to me, comes from the fact that Phoenix is a hotbed of technology in the real estate space. There are many progressive brokers and agents who get this online marketing thing; Jay Thompson, Jonathan Dalton, and Nick Bastian just to name a few. I attended two sessions on SEO and two sessions on social media marketing, all with great attendance. In the SEO sessions, we talked a lot about link juice, anchor text, no-follows, and link building, among other things. If you have a SEO question you’d like answered, feel free to ask it in the new SEO category of Zillow Advice. Regarding the social media marketing, topics discussed ranged from online etiquette and SPAM to privacy concerns and Twitter. The Phoenix version of Andy Kaufman’s famous “half baked” (ask Andy on Twitter if you aren’t familiar with the game) was the final session and it didn’t disappoint.
The combination of an extremely engaged audience and the venue — Scottsdale Stadium — was nothing short of superb! I have to extend a huge thank you to Jay Thompson and all of the volunteers for the event that made it all possible. The event went over as smoothly as could be and I heard nothing but compliments of the job they did from other attendees. For those interested, Jay Thompson has a wrap up over at the RE BarCamp Phoenix blog and I’ve embedded the video montage he put together below.
