For the real estate professionals reading this, I think it’s worth noting the great momentum that the RE BarCamp movement is seeing. Every week, it seems there is a new RE BarCamp being organized in some new city somewhere across the country — and even internationally in Cancun! If you’re not familiar with RE BarCamp, it’s an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment (an *unconference* of sorts). It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction from attendees. There are two RE BarCamps this coming Thursday, the 23rd:
- RE BarCamp Phoenix — I’ll be there all day on Thursday and will attend the social the night before
- RE BarCamp Portland — David Gibbons will be in attendance
I’ve attended RE BarCamps in San Francisco, Houston, New York, Los Angeles, and Seattle (which we hosted here at Zillow’s offices) and can confidently say it’s a great avenue to make connections with fellow real estate pros and gain a bit of knowledge in the process. Topics of conversation range from geeky stuff like SEO, social media marketing, blogging, agent/broker websites, and Twitter to traditional topics such as REOs, home staging, and brokerage business models. No matter what topic you’re passionate about, you’re likely to find at least one other person passionate about the same thing.
If you’re attending either one of these events, come find us in person or on Twitter (@davidgibbons & @drewmeyers) and say hi!
